Welcome to "The Monday Mention", a weekly feature where I highlight several local businesses in a Dallas/Fort Worth neighborhood or shopping center. There are tons of great restaurants, coffee spots and businesses around the metroplex, so I'll spend some time each week visiting these neighborhoods, interviewing managers and business owners and sharing my favorite experiences in the form of "mentions".
My latest Monday Mention takes us to Greenville Avenue. Because Greenville Avenue has so many restaurants, bars and shops, and is long enough to have different neighborhoods and even names (see Lowest Greenville), I've focused on 3 spots towards the north side of Greenville near Mockingbird. Next week, I'll focus on Lower Greenville and then finally arrive at Lowest Greenville. There was no list for Greenville Avenue that didn't include Snuffers, so thats' where Is started! There are so many great restaurants, bars and shops that line Greenville Avenue, so be on the lookout in future weeks for upcoming Monday Mentions that highlight the rest of the best on Greenville Avenue!
#1 Snuffers
Snuffers seems like one of those restaurants that you have to try when you visit Dallas for the first time! It's located right at the beginning of Greenville Avenue if you are headed south, and right next door to the Granada Theater. Snuffers is casual, low-key, both family friendly and a spot for college kids to hang out and eat/drink due to its proximity to SMU. Our family loves Snuffers! We can usually seat ourselves, there's usually enough noise to offset our loud children and we love the cheddar fries! Some of our favorite menu items include the Fried Pickles, the Texas Chili Dog, the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and the kids Mini Corn Dogs! If you go for lunch, they have a daily special from Monday through Friday from 11 AM - 3 PM that includes an entree, fountain drink and a side for $9.99. That's an amazing deal!! Snuffers is open from Monday through Thursday from 11 AM - 11 PM, Friday and Saturday from 11 AM - 12 AM and Sundays from 11 AM - 10 PM.
#2 The Corner Market
Not only does The Corner Market serve incredible deli food, they have a pretty great floral shop as well. They pride themselves on being THE Lower Greenville flower market since they opened in 2005. They offer seasonal blooms, artful arrangements and one-of-a-kind gifts, etc. You can find really amazing candles, cards and other boutique type finds as well here. They can create floral arrangements for any event, large or small, including birthdays, weddings and "just because" events. The deli is connected, so after you search for floral arrangements, you can go get something to eat at the market. They offer a wide variety of both hot and cold sandwiches, salads, soups, breakfast and bakery items! Some of my personal favorites are the Morningside Chicken Salad Sandwich, the Texas Sandwich and for breakfast, the Country Style Biscuits & Gravy! If you haven't stopped by, go check it out! Their hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7 AM - 7 PM, Saturday from 8 AM - 7 PM and Sunday from 9 AM - 4 PM.
In addition (and just in the time for the holiday season), they are offering their Holiday Menu. Click here for the full list of offerings. You can get a la carte items or everything catered. They have you covered, from the turkey, the stuffing, the mashed potatoes, the salad and desert. It looks really tasty and great for the holiday season!!
#3 Aw Shucks Oyster Bar
Full disclosure, I'm allergic to shellfish, and therefore, don't really eat at Aw Shucks. However, I felt like it was wrong to not include them on this list, due to their popularity and cult following amongst "Dallasites". Two highlights that stick out to me are their Lunch Specials and their Happy Hour offerings. For their Lunch Specials, they offer a variety of meals for $7.99, every weekday from 11 AM - 3 PM. On Friday, you can get 1 catfish filet, 2 fried shrimp, fries and coleslaw for basically $8! Also, they offer a Happy Hour menu every weekday from 3-6 PM. You can get a dozen raw oysters for $5 off, 5 jumbo fried shrimp for $5, $3 draft beers, $5 house margaritas and much more!! There are two more Aw Shucks in Lewisville and Frisco and two Big Shucks, which are located on Mockingbird near SMU and Richardson. The Greenville location is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 AM - 10 PM and Fridays and Saturdays from 11 AM - 10:30 PM.
Thank you for following my Monday Mentions! Be on the lookout for more great restaurant recommendations and business highlights each week!
