Home Of The Week - Mid Century Modern Masterpiece

909 W Colorado Boulevard, Dallas, TX 75208

I’ve featured a lot of homes over the past few years as part of my “Home of the Week” series, but this one might be the best! I got a chance to tour this property the other day, and it’s even better than it shows in the pictures. This home checks so many boxes: it’s situated on a large corner lot, the property has a ton of mature trees, it’s located in one of Dallas’ most coveted neighborhoods in Kessler Park, it has a circular driveway with 4 angled parking spots for easy access in and out of the property, the home blends period-appropriate details with modern conveniences and it has an incredible pool in the backyard!

The first thing you notice when you pull into the driveway is the amazing ornate wooden front doors, which set the tone for the entire “visit”. Once inside, the foyer is extremely unique, with two indoor atriums/gardens. The home does not feel like it was built in 1966, thanks to the current owners restoring the home throughout and seamlessly blending modern touches and updates while honoring the home’s original character. For example, the original wood parquet flooring in the living room and primary bedroom siting area was refinished and stained a lighter color. They also stained the wood flooring in the office with a darker finish, to contrast with the original grass cloth wall coverings. Everything was very thoughtfully designed for each space and room’s story. Another example is the kitchen – the owners kept most of the original cabinetry and spirit of the kitchen, while updating the island, adding a stainless-steel refrigerator and matching the wood surround to the cabinets, and using the original drawer pulls on the new island drawers to match throughout. They also added new backsplash tiles to match the diagonal patterns on the glass cabinet facings on the opposite side of the kitchen. I felt like I was standing in the original kitchen, but it didn’t feel old or outdated. The updates were very well done!

The home includes 4 spacious bedrooms, four bathrooms, a great room, expansive windows which allow a ton of natural light, a primary suite with a fireplace and sitting area, updated bathrooms that still feel like they are “vintage”, the coolest wet-bar I’ve seen in a long time and an indoor smoker. The wet-bar has a ton of original features, including the original min-fridge and ice-maker (non-functioning), a built-in blender base (which does function), wood screens, the original wood cabinetry and a pull-out tray.

Lastly, the pool feels like you are in Los Angeles or some cool house in Hollywood! They shape feels very “retro”, but it’s been resurfaced and taken care of, so it’s very move-in ready! The landscaping is very well done as well! A huge thank you to the listing agent, Cody Conway, for letting me come visit the home! Also, thank you to my friend and agent Michael Mahon, who also happens to be the homeowner. Michael has always been such a kind and generous person to me as a fellow Realtor®. This home is a must see, so reach out to me if you’d like to set up a private tour!
