East Dallas is about to welcome a new neighbor, and the newest restaurant to the vibrant growing landscape of eateries and dining options in the community. Birdies, set to open in December of 2023, is the latest restaurant concept from Jon Alexis and hospitality group Imperial Fizz, owners of TJ’s Seafood (in Preston Hollow), Malibu Poke (in Oaklawn), Escondido Tex-Mex (in Preston Hollow) and Ramble Room (in Snider Plaza). I recently got the chance to tour the unfinished space, get a sneak peek of the vision and menu, and chat with Jon one-on-one.
Two things kept coming up in our conversation: 1) Birdies was designed for everyone and 2) Every choice they made was intentional. Basically, Birdie’s was designed to accommodate everybody, from a family wanting to enjoy dinner while their kids play outside, to a couple on a date night to adults wanting to enjoy a drink in the adults-only lounge. The restaurant was designed for people to have different types of experiences all under the same roof. In addition to the indoor and outdoor seating areas, Birdie’s will also include a turfed area for kids to play, an adults-only lounge, and a private room with its own patio for special events. The spaces were made to feel cozy and casual!
What I really loved about seeing the interior spaces in person was the attention to detail and the overall vibe. They intentionally dressed the spaces down a bit, and as Jon would say, “Birdie’s is just like East Dallas – casually Texas, a little boho, super comfy and easygoing”. They even used custom tiles from an East Dallas company called Riad Tile! Birdie’s will have a “cozy Marfa vibe”, and Jon hopes that the restaurant will become the “background of your favorite East Dallas memories”. The menu will feature scratch-made drinks, flatbreads, salads, sandwiches, burgers, wraps, pasta, and knife-and-fork entrees. One of the most interesting things on the menu will be the Red Velvet Whoopie Pie!
Birdie's is now open, as of Monday December 11th, 2023. They open at 4 PM every day - see ya'll there!!
